Our Vision

Encouraging and Equipping Latin Americans to Proclaim Christ to the Nations

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” -Matthew 28:18-20 NIV

God’s Great Commission is a magnificent undertaking in scope and beauty. He tells us to travel everywhere, talk to everyone, and teach them to obey everything that Jesus commanded. However, there is a significant labor shortage: “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.” This task is much too great to fall on one single person. The good news is that even though God doesn’t need us, He desires our obedience to the call so together we can share in the blessing and joy of seeing His will accomplished and His name glorified!

The Big Picture

God has called Asa and Suz to encourage the Latin American church to full maturity and equip them with training and resources that are inaccessible or lacking. We long to see Latin Americans multiply leaders, churches, and missions movements among every people.

Asa is passionate about teaching and counseling others and hopes to assist in planting churches, encouraging pastors, and counseling families, especially husbands and fathers. He is pursuing further ministry education in the realm of biblical counseling. Both he and Suz love music and expect this will always be a part of their ministry in some capacity.

Suz has a full-time discipleship ministry as a mother of three, but also hopes to provide education and encouragement for mothers seeking hope at prenatal clinics. Eventually she would like to help churches start prenatal clinics in places that do not have access to one.

The Path to Peru

Peru was not the first place that came to mind when we began considering mission fields. However, God gradually guided our thoughts and hearts to making Peru the starting place for our overseas ministry. The first ABWE missionaries arrived in the jungles of Peru in 1939, the second field opened after the Philippines in 1927. Following a long history of missionary efforts, the Peruvian church is now beginning to send their own missionaries. The ABWE team in Peru has articulated a vision of the country of Peru being a global epicenter of missions in the years to come. Because the church in Peru is growing and sending, we believe the capital city Lima is a strategic location to begin our journey as missionaries. With several established churches, a seminary, and ABWE’s flagship counseling and prenatal center, we plan to spend our first term in Lima absorbing Latino culture and the Spanish language, receiving on-site training in counseling and other skills relevant to motherhood-related ministries, and gaining essential ministry experience we can take wherever God leads next, whether we stay in Lima, or go elsewhere in Latin America.
